Four volumes of manuscript books naming pits, seams (including Bullhurst seam where author was killed in 1882) and colleagues: 1866-1871; 1874; 1877-1878; 1889-1899, hand-written by Mining Surveyor (in black ink and pencil with red ink additions, some blank leaves), plans of mining seams with measurements and directions in compass settings (including tables giving time, temperature, “quantity of air” when open and closed for each level of mine-workings), very interesting “Notes on a Barometer” “Names on a Pocket Compass” and “formulae” for calculating temperatures, extract from ‘1866-71’ (page 141) “explosion in the ten feet mine…12th Jan 1871″ followed by (page 143) “Inquest” with names of dead and where found (“Geo Longmoor found in No 7 level…with his face in a small pool of water quite dead”) and witness statements, very detailed contemporary industrial record,
