Approximately 720 pages, an 8 page issue for each day of the week, London’s first half penny newspaper, which aimed for mass appeal through the reporting of scandal and gruesome crime. The contents also include regular book reviews, daily news concerning London’s political and industrial worlds, as well as substantial foreign correspondence and news of internation affairs. Of note in this volume is the reporting on the developing Spanish Civil War, including mention of the Carlists. The development of the locomotive engine is also documented, illustrating the transition to motor vehicles and the development of roads.
